Serving officers who will still be on probation on conversion to the now scale will not be affected by the pr bation bar as shown on the scalo but will convert to the point shown opposite their present salary. The duration of their probationary period will be as set out in paragraph 4(ii) above.
All officers whose salaries are such that they might expect to convert over the efficiency bars above $500 per month, officiency $600 por month and $800 per month will only be permitted to bars.

In cases where the Commissioner is not prepared to sign such a certificate, the officer concerned will convort to the new scalo at the highest point below the efficiency bar in question and will remain on that salary until his standard of conduct and efficiency improves to such a degree that the Commissioner is prepared to sign the necessary certificate. It should be noted that in future it will be necessary for officers to pass such examinations in law, languages, drill and musketry as may from time to time we prescribed before they are allowed to pass the probation and efficiency bars in the revised scale.

17. Subject to the proviso in paragraph 16 above, officers whose monthly salaries on 1st January, 1947, were either $346.67 or 4373.33 or $400 or $426.67 will convert to the new salary shown opposite the appropriate figure and on 1st January, 1948, they will proceed to the next point on the incremental scale. 1st January will henceforth be the incremental date of such officers. Similarly officers on $360, $386.67, $415.33 or $446.67 on 1st January, 1947, will convert to the new salery shown opposite the appropriate figure and on 1st July, 1947, will proceed to the next point in the incremental scale. 1st July will henceforth be the
incremental date of such officers.
18. Promotion from the grade of Inspe ctor to that of Chief Inspector will be by selection and will be dependent on the existence of a vacancy. Only officers who have passed a prescribed examination in law, languages, drill and musketry will be eligible for consideration.
EXPATRIATION PAY
Expatriati on 19. If you come on to the new terris and if you are pay rates. notified that you are regarded as an expatriate officer, you
will be eligiule for expatriation pay in addition to your revised pasic salary at the following rates: -

Expatriation pay will be pensionable and will be payable both while you are on duty in the Colony and while you are absent on leave It will not be taken into account for the purpose of assessing high cost of living allowance or of assessing any deduction which may be made from your revised basic salary if Government quarters are made available to you. Deductions for the purpose of the Widows and Orphans Pension Scheme will however be made from expatriation pay as well as from basic salary.
